Exploring Silence: A Contemporary Mime Workshop
By Alexandra Miron, director and workshop facilitator.
Last month, we had the privilege of hosting an intensive three-day workshop dedicated to contemporary mime and the language of stage silence. The space was transformed into a movement laboratory, where 15 participants explored the grammar of the body beyond words.
Themes Explored
- The illusion of the object: Creating and manipulating invisible objects with precision and credibility.
- Dynamics of contraction and expansion: Using muscle tension to narrate emotional states.
- Rhythm and pause: How silence becomes the most powerful narrative tool.
- Interaction with imaginary space: Building walls, doors, and landscapes from nothing.
"Mime is not the absence of speech, but the total presence of the body. Every muscle becomes a word."
The workshop concluded with a small-scale presentation, where each participant had the opportunity to synthesize a personal story through pure movement. The energy in the studio was one of deep concentration and authentic discovery, once again demonstrating the power of physical theatre to communicate universally.
